Law firm handles 144 deals

Strong year for Shepherd & Wedderburn

Scottish law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has hailed a strong year for its banking and finance practice after advising on 144 deals worth £93.4 billion.

Highlights included three separate Towd Point-Granite securitisations with a total value of £7bn. This was in relation to the Neptune portfolio of Northern Rock residential mortgages and unsecured loans purchased by Cerberus from the UK Government.  Granite 1 was the largest RMBS since 2007.

The firm was also involved in ground breaking work in other sectors. S&W advised the UK Green Investment Bank (GIB) on its latest green loan to help Stirling Council save £31m over the next 30 years by installing 12,000 energy saving streetlights.

It also advised Nord L/B on the £70m funding of the new East Lothian Community Hospital project, which involves the construction of a 23,000 square metre modern hospital in the Roodlands Campus site.

Fiona Buchanan (pictured), head of banking and finance at S&W, said: “We are especially heartened to have been able to work with a wide range of organisations — from large multinationals to owner-operated SMEs.”
