Two singles quarter finalists for Britain

Murray: 23 out of 25


Britain will have a quarter finalist in the men’s and women’s singles for the first time since 1973 after victories for Andy Murray and Johanna Konta.

Andy Murray beat France’s Benoit Paire, 7-6, (7-1) 6-4 6-4 and has now reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the 10th successive year and at 23 of the last 25 Grand Slam events he has contested.

He will play Sam Querrey in the next round. Murray has a 7-1 record over the American.

Johanna Konta became the first British woman to reach this stage at Wimbledon since Joe Durie in 1984 after also defeating French opposition.

Sixth seed Konta beat Caroline Garcia 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 6-4 to reach her third Grand Slam quarter-final.

The 26-year-old will face Romanian second seed Simona Halep.
