Shock in Aegon tournament
Murray in first round Queen’s defeat
The defeat to Australian Jordan Thompson, ranked 90, is a setback to the Scot’s Wimbledon preparations.
Murray was already fearing for his world No 1 status ahead of his defence of the Aegon championship.
He had been aiming for a record sixth title but in one of the biggest upsets at the tournament he was swept aside 7-6, 6-2 by Thompson who was a replacement for Aljaz Bedene, the British No 4 who withdrew due to a wrist injury.
Thompson had lost to Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in the second round of qualifying on Sunday.
