Project for Exchange district
Hotel and offices plan for power site
A hotel and offices could be built on the site of a former electricity substation in Edinburgh’s Exchange district.
JM Architects has designed plans for the ScottishPower site in Dewar Place neighbouring the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
They include 4,500 sq/m of office space, two hotels comprising 550 rooms, as well as retail and leisure facilities.
There will be three buildings, each rising on top of a central podium over the railway tunnel connecting Haymarket with Waverley.
A landmark office building is planned for what is a prominent, but neglected site. There will be small-scale retail and bars/restaurants on the ground floor.
An application to the cit council is based on an approved masterplan prepared for the site by PLP Architects in 2010.
