Italy test in Singapore
Scots break new ground for Townsend debut
Gregor Townsend will take charge of his first game as Scotland head coach in an historic test match against Italy in Singapore.
The forthcoming summer tour will see the Scots face the Italians on Saturday, 10 June in the first tier one international to be played in the Lion City.
After Singapore, Scotland will head to Australia for the first time since 2012 to take on the Wallabies in Sydney on Saturday, 17 June before completing their southern hemisphere visit with a test match against Fiji in Suva on Saturday, 24 June.
Townsend, who takes over from Vern Cotter next month, said: “Our players will relish the challenges presented by tough opposition, travel and climate in a concentrated and intense period of rugby.
“Touring builds strong bonds in a group and this time together will be invaluable for our new coaching team as we strive to further improve the squad.”
Welcoming the ground-breaking test match, Scottish Rugby chief operating officer Dominic McKay said: “Our first test in Singapore sees the continuation of our long-term objective of further-globalising the Scottish Rugby brand in Asia-Pacific, as part of an exciting summer tour to the southern hemisphere for the Scotland team.”
