Trophy heads to Easter Road
Hibernian clinch Championship title
Hibernian 3 Queen of the South 0
Hibernian followed up last year’s Scottish Cup victory by clinching the Championship title.
Goals from Darren McGregor (2) and captain David Gray were enough to secure their place at the top of the table with nearest challengers Falkirk drawing at home to St Mirren.
It is also a reward for Neil Lennon in his first season at Easter Road and for the supporters who missed out on promotion in last season’s play-offs.
Today’s attendance of 17,054 was one of the biggest of the season and there was a party atmosphere as the final whistle marked the end of three seasons in the second tier.
It means a renewal next season of the Edinburgh derby and an opportunity for Lennon to test his team against his former club Celtic who have opened up a gulf with the rest of the Premier League.
Before then Hibs will attempt to reach their second successive Scottish Cup Final when they take on Aberdeen in the semi-final at Hampden next weekend.
