Vodafone responds to fine with more jobs

Vodafone is creating 2,100 jobs across the UK, including 300 in Scotland as it responds to a huge fine imposed the mobile giant last year.

There will be 800 additional posts in Manchester, 150 in Newark, 150 in Stoke-on-Trent and about 100 in Glasgow.

Third party call centre suppliers of Vodafone customer services will create a further 600 jobs in Newcastle, 200 roles in the west of Scotland, and 100 in Cardiff.

The company, which employs 12,500 staff across the UK, said the added jobs are part of a three-year investment in its network and services.

Vodafone UK chief executive Nick Jeffery said: “These new, skilled roles will make a real difference to our customers and a real difference to the communities that are the focus of our customer services investment.”

The announcement follows a £4.6m fine imposed on the company by the regulator Ofcom last October for “serious” breaches of consumer protection rules.

It was the watchdog’s biggest fine for a telecoms operator for offences which included a breach of the rules on handling customer complaints.
