Centre out for 5 months

Lions dream over for injured Jones

Scotland centre Huw Jones has been ruled out of action for up to five months – ending his hopes of a Lions call-up – after tearing his hamstring in the Six Nations victory over Italy.

The impressive 23-year-old had been an ever-present during the campaign and scored two tries against England at Twickenham.

Jones, who joins Glasgow Warriors from South African outfit Stormers next season, is to undergo surgery in London, according to his club.

Capped eight times for Scotland, he will miss the summer tour to Australia under new head coach Gregor Townsend and the injury has killed his dream of representing the British and Irish Lions in New Zealand.

Townsend takes over from Montpellier-bound Vern Cotter, whose last game in charge of the Scots was Saturday’s whitewash of the Italians.
