Griggs to oversee HBOS Reading review for Lloyds

Russel GriggsLloyds Banking Group has appointed former Scottish Enterprise executive Professor Russel Griggs to oversee a review into the HBOS Reading scandal.

Two ex-HBOS bankers were among six people jailed last month for their part in a scandal in which personal gains were made from exploiting small businesses.

Lloyds, which acquired HBOS ahead of the financial crash in 2008, said after the trial concluded that it would be looking into the evidence that had emerged.

It said in a statement that Scotland-based Prof Griggs had been “selected for his experience in overseeing high profile reviews of a complex nature”.

Prof Griggs worked at Scottish Enterprise in a business development role, before becoming an executive director running the investment and business development arms.

He held positions at Scotland the Brand, The Scottish Science Trust, and Imes Group. He was non-executive chairman and director of the Edinburgh-based technology firm PureLiFi until last summer.

He chaired the CBI’s national SME Council at UK level and the Regulatory Review Group for the Scottish Government. He is honorary Professor of the University of Glasgow. He was awarded an OBE in 2008 for services to Scottish business. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Glasgow in 2002.
