Unite settles over Diageo pensions dispute

Johnnie WalkerA dispute over pensions at drinks giant Diageo has been settled after members of the Unite union voted to accept a compromise plan.

About 89% of the union’s members supported a proposal put forward during talks with representatives from the Johnnie Walker whisky company at the conciliation service ACAS.

The decision follows an earlier ballot in December, when Unite members rejected the proposal, while members of sister union GMB voted to accept.

Unite regional officer Pat McIlvogue said: “We are now focused on the future. Unite has been given a mandate by our workplace representatives to negotiate with the company on new collective bargaining structures to deal with our members’ future concerns and we will be looking to discuss that with the company as soon as possible.”
