Studio secures funds for bigger role in Hollywood

DI4DA Scottish film animation studio is poised for a bigger role in Hollywood after receiving a £900,000 boost from a series of investors.

University spin-out Dimensional Imaging (DI4D), headquartered in Hillington, Glasgow, has already provided its facial animation expertise to blockbuster movies such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. 

The company, set up in 2003 by a group of academics at the universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, has been backed by existing shareholders and London-based private equity firm Percipient Capital.

Chief executive and co-founder Colin Urquhart said the funding would be invested in R&D and will help the company open an office in Los Angeles to work more closely with the film industry. 

The nine-employee company has also worked with the Glasgow Dental Hospital and is likely to adds jobs at its Hillington base.
