Ambitious move for club

March tee off for Bruntsfield Links’ CEO

Douglas CleetonBruntsfield Links Golfing Society has appointed Douglas Cleeton as its new chief executive.

Currently managing secretary at Blairgowrie Golf Club, Mr Cleeton takes up his new post on 1 March.

The Edinburgh club is set to embark on an ambitious course revamp later this year and Mr Cleeton is looking forward to exciting times ahead.

“It is a great honour and privilege to work at Bruntsfield Links and an opportunity I couldn’t turn down,” he said.

“It is the fourth oldest club in the world and one of the most prestigious in the UK.

“With outstanding views of the River Forth, there are great ambitions to elevate the course to one of the best in Scotland.

“I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and working with an ambitious and proactive board and members.”

The course redesign will see the creation of a new par 3 16th hole to replace the current 12th, while the 13th is being lengthened to become a par 5.

Major re-bunkering work will be another major part of the programme, which is being carried out by renowned golf course designers Mackenzie & Ebert.

Mr Cleeton spent 26 years with Lothian & Borders Police before taking up the post of Honorary Secretary at Turnhouse Golf Club in Edinburgh.

He was appointed Managing Secretary at Blairgowrie Golf Club in 2010.
