Factory on growth path

String factory ties up funding for expansion

Britain’s only twine and string factory, based in the east end of Glasgow, is investing in modern technology that will help take its products into new markets.

Henry Winning produces a million metres of twine and string every day for a variety of end products including butcher’s twine, horticulture and recycling.

It is one of only two manufacturers in Europe accredited to the highest standard of food safety.

Derbyshire based Trunet (UK), a manufacturer of elasticated meat string, recently acquired the company and is investing £655,000 to revolutionise its production methods.

Scottish Enterprise has provided a £130,000 regional selective assistance grant as the company is expected to create 15 jobs.

Adrian Gillespie, head of growth companies at Scottish Enterprise, said: “This is an excellent example of a company looking at innovative ways for how they can modernise, building on their expertise in this very specialist manufacturing industry.”
