Expanding Aldi to open stores across Scotland

Aldi Port GlasgowAldi is opening six stores in Scotland this year, bringing the total number north of the border to 78 and the payroll to 2,600.

Stores will open at Auldhouse Retail Park, Glasgow (April), Dumfries (June), Montrose (July), Drumchapel, Glasgow (August) and Oxgangs, Edinburgh (October). A sixth site is awaiting planning approval.

In the past year the company has announced a number of supplier deals with Scottish companies.

Richard Holloway, managing director Scotland, said: “We want to build on the success of 2016. I am confident that we will strike deals with more Scottish suppliers in the coming year.

“Our growth plans for 2017 underpin Aldi’s ongoing commitment to Scotland which saw eight stores open in 2016 and the launch of Aldi’s first Scottish Sport Fund, support which shall be renewed in the course of the year.”

The retailer’s Scottish headquarters in Bathgate are currently undergoing a multimillion pound extension to house the growing buying team in order to support ALDI’s expansion plans and local sourcing footprint.

Aldi also plans to extend its regional distribution centre in Bathgate over the next two years to service growing sales and store numbers in Scotland.
