The killer of Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov was a 22-year-old riot policeman
Mevlut Mert Aydintas shot Mr Karlov, apparently in protest at Russia’s involvement in Syria.
It was not clear if the assassin, who was later shot dead, had links to any group.
Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the attack was aimed at hurting ties with Russia. He spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin and they agreed it was an act of “provocation”.
