Sugar shows sweet tooth for cake maker

alana-spencer-apprentice-winnerWelsh cake maker Alana Spencer has been named winner of The Apprentice and Lord Sugar’s new business partner.

She beat off novelty gift company owner Courtney Wood to secure the £250,000 investment in her business. Ms Spencer is looking to scale up a cake business under the brand “Ridiculously Rich.”

Lord Sugar said. “I think with my backing we can turn this into a big business.”

Ms Spencer, 24,  said: “I can’t believe I’m the winner. This is definitely going to change my life. If I can pull it off it’s going to be an incredible business.”

It is currently run from a country kitchen in West Wales with her boyfriend as its sole employee.

The 12th series on BBC1 began with 18 candidates 11 weeks ago. Ms Spencer becomes only the second female to win in the last six years.
