Oil firm hopes to redeploy staff

Shell to close Glasgow office in cost review

ShellRoyal Dutch Shell is to close its Glasgow offices in just over a year’s time as part of a review of its cost base.

The oil company employs 380 staff at the finance facility in Bothwell Street and said it would look to find jobs elsewhere in the group for those affected.

A spokesman said the company had to remain competitive and accepted that it was being forced to make what it called “difficult choices”.

Glasgow is regarded as a relatively high cost centre and over the next 15 months the jobs there would be dispersed to other centres. It is likely that the number left out of work will be small.

Shell opened the Glasgow office in 1998 to handle back office administration.
