Attack on awards

Cyber crime busters targeted by hackers

CyberCybercrime experts almost fell foul of a hacking attempt on a dinner organised to celebrate best performance in the sector.

As 120 diners gathered for the inaugural Scottish Cyber Awards, Mandy Haeburn-Little, director of the Scottish Business Resilience Centre admitted: “We had a significant attempt to hack the awards.

“They said they were a company but we realised what was happening.”

SBRC, whose membership includes RBS, the Law Society of Scotland and Lloyds Bank, staged the awards at Edinburgh’s Waldorf Astoria.

The centre currently has no fewer than eight ethical hackers on board who are loaned to organisations seeking to strengthen their online presence.
