Exclusive: businessman attacks hypocrisy
Awards leaders ‘among those not paying bills’
A Scots businessman has torn into some of those celebrating with an Hollywood actor in Edinburgh while helping put companies out of business by failing to pay their bills.
Ken Lewandowski, who has been a long-time campaigner for action on late payments, was scathing about those who claim they are backing business when they are causing them to go to the wall.
He said he knows that some who attended the Scottish Business Awards at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre are among the late paying offenders.
His comments follow a report from the FSB this week saying late payers are putting 2,000 small firms out of business every year.
Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio was guest speaker at the Awards event, billed as the biggest gathering of Scottish business leaders.
In an interview with Daily Business, Mr Lewandowski, who has chaired a number of companies, said: “We’ve got business people celebrating about Leonardo DiCaprio being in town and who’ll be saying how they support Scottish business.
“But I know the ones who are doing no such thing. There are people there tonight who are not paying their bills.
“They are not supporting Scottish businesses, they are putting them out of business.”
DiCaprio signed autographs outside an Edinburgh restaurant where he dined with the winner of a competition.
It is thought to be his first visit to Scotland.
