Welcome news for Princes St
£8m store promises ‘Bond St’ experience
It will be the largest luxury jewellery shop in the UK, comprising 10,000 sq ft of retail space over three floors.
The store, employing 20 staff, will be the only stockist of a number of key Swiss brands and occupies a corner unit formerly leased to USC, the clothing business.
Harry Brown, chief executive of Chisholm Hunter, promises a “Bond Street” experience for customers.
“The opening of our flagship store is a significant moment for the business. The Princes Street boutique will be the centrepiece of our portfolio,” he said.
CH Holdings, with almost 300 staff, was founded in Glasgow by Mr Brown who trained as a gemologist.
Chisholm Hunter achieved revenues of £33 million (excluding VAT) at the end of the last financial year, almost 12% growth on the previous year.
Following the exit of USC and HMV, the arrival of Chisholm Hunter will be cheered by the retail and property sectors.
There has been a surge in occupancy and rentals in Edinburgh’s main shopping thoroughfare. Sports Direct has moved in and Ann Summers has taken more space. The former BHS store has also generated a lot of interest.
