Celtic keep Champions League dream alive
Celtic managed to avoid defeat on their European travels for only the third time in 26 Champions League group matches with this draw in Germany.
The result leaves the Scottish champions at the foot of their group, but they maintain a slim hope of overcoming last night’s opponent to qualify for the Europa League.
Frenchman Moussa Dembele once again came to Celtic’s rescue with a goal from the penalty spot late in the game. It was his 16th goal of the season and will add to his growing reputation.
Celtic trailed to Lars Stindl’s first half strike but for periods looked the better team.
Borussia were reduced to 10 men when defender Julian Korb sent off for the foul on Dembele which led to the spot-kick.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was delighted with his team’s performance. “I thought we were the better team. We should have scored again.
“I said to them that in order for us to improve at this level, we needed to play with personality. And the personality we showed in the game was outstanding.”
In the other group game Manchester City beat Barcelona 3-1.
