Murray wins Vienna to edge towards top slot

Andy Murray edged closer to taking the World Number One slot after beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3 7-6 (8-6) to take the the Vienna Open title.

If he wins next week’s Paris Master he will replace Novak Djokovic at the top of the tennis rankings, unless the Serbian also reaches the final.

Murray, 29, has won seven titles this year including one grand slam (Wimbledon) and the Olympic gold.

Frenchman Tsonga has beaten Murray only twice in their previous 15 meetings.
