Barton charged with betting on football matches
Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has been charged with breaking rules on gambling on football matches.
The Scottish Football Association has accused the 34-year-old of placing 44 bets between 1 July and 15 September this year.
He is currently serving a three-week ban imposed by the Ibrox club following a dispture among players. It expires on Monday.
The player has until 12 October to respond to the charge, with a hearing set for 27 October.
He faces an accusation of breaching SFA disciplinary rule 33 which prohibits players, coaches, club officials and referees in Scotland from betting on football anywhere in the world.
