Scot defeated in US Open

Sun sets on Murray’s glorious summer

andy-murray-at-davis-cupTennis – US Open: Andy Murray‘s glorious summer came to an end against the Japanese sixth seed Kei Nishikori.

Under the roof of a packed Arthur Ashe stadium the Wimbledon and Olympic champion struggled to dominate and lost concentration.

It was Nishikori’s second victory against the Scot who appeared jaded and disgruntled at his performance and seemed to let the noisy crowd get to him.

From 40-love down and a game from defeat Murray managed to break back to draw level at 4-4 in a tense fifth set. But after going 5-4 up he lost the final set 7-5.

Nishikori’s 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory over 3 hours and 58 minutes means he will play Stan Wawrinka in the semi final after the Swiss player overcame the Argentinian Juan Martin Del Potro.
