Pioneering deal for consumers
Intu and MBNA combine in credit card first
The deal between the two is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK between a credit card provider and a shopping centre owner.
The new card forms an integral part of Intu’s strategy to build its national consumer-facing brand.
The collaboration opens up a major market for MBNA. Consumer insight from the business has identified this as a significant market opportunity for pioneering financial products that will be beneficial for customers.
More than 35 million customers visit Intu’s UK shopping centres every year, which include Braehead near Glasgow, the Trafford Centre (Manchester), Lakeside (Essex), Metrocentre (Newcastle), and Victoria Centre (Nottingham). They have 400 million visits a year.
Trevor Pereira, Intu’s digital and commercial director, said the two companies have created “a sector-first commercial agreement that will form an integral part of our ongoing brand-building strategy.”
Michael Donald, MBNA’s commercial and payments executive, said: “We’re delighted to be the first credit card provider in the UK to collaborate with a market-leading shopping centre owner.”
