Pint-sized performer with a big voice
Classical crossover mezzo-soprano Ciara Harvie, a mere teenager has been entertaining Edinburgh fringe aficionados daily in St Andrew Square where hundreds have been stunned by the talent of this pint-sized performer.
It is said that artistic careers are made in August in Edinburgh and this one should go stratospheric as Ciara has the full package of stage presence, classical kudos and charming chemistry which enchanted her audience. Not only does she sing like an angel, she looks like one too.
Her rendition of Puccini’s O Mia Babbino Caro reduced this reviewer to reaching for a hankie. Ave Maria was awe inspiring, or awesome as her peers might say.
Nessun Dorma made sure no-one in the tent would snooze off.
There’s no doubt this 18 year-old Edinburgh school leaver has the world at her feet and fame beckons.
In an age of manufactured talent it is admirable that Ciara is aided ably by her devoted mum and dad Val and Mark who ferry her to and from gigs and ito appearances for a clamouring corporate circuit, functioning not only as protective parents but as PA and PR.
A mature repertoire also includes Canto della terra, L’amore Sei Tu and a poignant performance of Parla Piu Piano aka the love song from the Godfather.
Catch her while you can as London is calling constantly.
