Refurbishment fulfils vision

Neighbour gives academy a facelift

Sanquhar academyA college has undergone a major facelift and installed a new library following investment from an educational furniture manufacturer.

Following consultation with Sanquhar Academy, EME Furniture transformed an underused learning centre into the school’s library and integrated learning space.

Gerard Toplass, chief executive of British Thornton, EME Furniture’s parent company, said: “Sanquhar Academy came to us with a vision to create an aspirational multi-purpose space with flexible furniture.

“We set to work designing, manufacturing and installing the complete furniture solution, hoping to create a space students would actively want to be in.

“The effect has been to create a far more vibrant and appealing environment, and it’s been fantastic to see the universally positive response from staff, pupils and parents alike.”

The 260-student school plans to refurbish more rooms and is working with the company on the next phase – a showcase classroom separated into zones for IT, tables and chairs for standard classroom teaching, and a combination of shaped tables and soft seating for group work.

EME Furniture is also working on refurbishing, refitting and designing furniture solutions for schools across Scotland, including the newly-built Clyde Valley Academy.
