Sleepwear show puts Festival to bed
An exhibition of Scots designer Karen Mabon’s sleepwear and brollies concluded the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival.
Ms Mabon unveiled her latest signature sleepwear in an exclusive preview of the collection at the Waldorf Caledonian hotel.
The 28-year-old from the Black Isle studied at the Royal College of Art in London before returning to Scotland to set up her business, initially at home. She is now based at the Codebase centre in Edinburgh.
She began making jewellery and selling it to friends, then printing some silk scarves. She landed contracts with blue chip retailers Liberty and Bloomingdales.
She now sells pyjamas, scarves and umbrellas bearing her own designs. In three years turnover has risen to £250,000.
