Her Majesty visits oldest inn
Pubgoers surprise as The Queen pops in
A quiet pint at one of Britain’s oldest pubs might be a pleasure in itself, but for the regulars of The Sheep Heid Inn there was an extra treat when they were joined by a special guest – Her Majesty the Queen.
The Monarch and the Duke of Edinburgh popped in to the famous local in Duddingston following a day at Musselburgh races.
The inn, the oldest in Scotland, is just a short drive from Holyrood Palace where they have been staying for the opening of the Scottish Parliament.
Her Majesty, accompanied by a small group, sat in the public dining area and enjoyed a meal and drinks. Staff were only told about her visit an hour beforehand.
Earlier in the day she was a guest at Musselburgh Racecourse to celebrate its 200th birthday and to unveil a sculpture.
