Stenson grabs Open lead over Mickelson

Henrik StensonGolf – The Open: Sweden’s Henrik Stenson grabbed the lead from American Phil Mickelson and goes into the final day one stroke ahead.

The duo appear certain to provide the eventual winner with Stenson carding a three-under-par 68 for 12 under overall, one shot clear of Mickelson, who shot 70.

American Bill Haas is third but six shots off the lead after a 69, one clear of England’s Andrew Johnston, who gathered more fans on his way to recording 70.

Rory McIlroy’ is well out of contention after finishing the third ay on level par after a 73.

US Open champion Dustin Johnson (-1) was putting a handy round together, but also carded a 72 after making a triple-bogey at the 11th.

England’s Justin Rose (+2) was three under after 15 but dropped three shots at the 16th for a 70, while Masters champion Danny Willett (+7) laboured to a 74.

Jamie Murray SerbiaTennis – Davis Cup: Jamie Murray and Dominic Inglot won their doubles match to give Great Britain a 2-1 advantage against Serbia in their quarter-final tie.

Inglot served out the game that won the match 1-6 7-6 (7-2) 3-6 4-6.

Kyle Edmund’s straight sets win over Janko Tipsarevic gave Great Britain a 1-0 lead before Dusan Lajovic beat James Ward 6-1 6-3 6-2

His opponent showed the effects of a two-year absence from the game but Edmund proved himself a worthy stand-in for Andy Murray who has chosen to rest following his exertions at Wimbledon.

It was an impressive performance from the world number 67 to overcome the former world number eight 6-3 6-4 6-0.
