Fantasy sports company FanDuel has announced a partnership deal with sports data provider Opta, ahead of launching its next generation fantasy football product in the UK.

Opta, part of Perform Group, will provide live performance statistics for FanDuel’s new fantasy football platform, to be launched in early August.

It condenses the traditional season-long format of fantasy sports into one day,

Since it was founded in 2009 Edinburgh-based FanDuel has amassed more than 6 million registered users across the US and Canada and 4 million app downloads.

Available on web and mobile, the UK product is being built by the same UK-based team that developed FanDuel’s popular US product and will focus on the English Premier League.

Karol Corcoran, director of international marketing at FanDuel, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Opta. They’re a world-leader in their field. Their expertise and data will add to the excitement of our live game experience, letting users watch their fantasy team rack up points as the real games play out on the pitch.

“Our team has spent a lot of time developing the right product for the UK’s football fans and we’ve already had a lot of positive feedback from users during our beta contest phase, which was rolled out during the 2016 Euros. We can’t wait to bring the full product to market.”

In an interview with Daily Business last month chief executive Nigel Eccles said: “We felt for years there was an opportunity in the UK market. We looked at the existing products and believe we can do it better.”
