Launch planned for August
FanDuel ‘delighted’ with UK game trial
Fantasy sports company FanDuel said it has received an encouraging response from a trial run of its new game ahead of the Edinburgh’s firm’s UK launch.
Hundreds of players signed up to test the game and have provided invaluable feedback.
FanDuel will introduce its one-day fantasy football platform in August, focusing on the English Premier League.
Available online and as an app, the product is built by the same UK-based team that developed FanDuel’s US games which regularly attract six million players.
Since launch in 2009 by a group of co-founders including current chief executive Nigel Eccles (pictured) FanDuel’s fantasy sports contests have been exclusively available in the US and Canada. The introduction of a product specifically for the UK market is the first phase of international expansion plans.
Karol Corcoran, director of international marketing, said: “We are delighted with the results of our Euros beta test, the feedback has been amazing, with users loving playing it and giving us feedback to help us prioritise features. Our team has been working hard to develop the right product for the UK market and feedback to date has really validated our approach.
“This is our first ever fantasy football product and has been created specially for football fans. We’ve got a great team in the UK who have already done a tremendous job on our US products.
“They’ve taken the best of our US learnings combined with local insight of the UK’s football scene to build an authentic product from the ground up.”
