£2m relaunch for airport bus service

Glasgow Airport ExpressFirstGroup today launches a more frequent bus service between Glasgow airport and the city centre following a £2.1 million investment which includes 10 new vehicles.

Supplied by Alexander Dennis in Falkirk, they will operate under the new Glasgow Airport Express branding.

Previously known as the Glasgow Shuttle, the new service promises a 15 minute journey time for the 10 mile trip.

FirstGroup hopes to capitalise on a near-30% rise in use of the airport service from 12,000 in January 2011 to 15,500 per week. First Glasgow’s contract to deliver the route has been renewed until 2021.

The Glasgow service connects the Airport with Central Station, Queen Street Station and Buchanan Bus Station.

The upgrading of the service follows recent proposals to introduce a rail connection.
