Standard Life axes 70 staff in IT department

Standard LifeStandard Life is cutting 70 jobs from its IT department in Edinburgh. It said it hoped to make the reductions through voluntary redundancy at its offices throughout the city.

It said the changes will improve the way it reacts to market demand and enable it to offer the best service to customers.

Standard Life said no other department is involved in the move.

Mark Dixon, Chief Information Officer at Standard Life said: “We believe this new model increases our ability to offer the best service to all customers of Standard Life, allowing us to react to market demand and to flex our support to meet their needs.”

The company has appointed Stephen Lochhead from Unilever as global talent and organisational development director.

Sandy Begbie, chief people officer, said: “We place a great deal of importance on talent which is critical to the future growth and success of our business and the appointment of Stephen into this newly created role reflects that. This is a new global role that will ensure a single strategic direction for Standard Life.

Stephen brings a wealth of international experience from a number of complex, sizeable companies across multiple cultures in Europe, North America and Asia.”

Mr Lochhead previously worked at Astra Zeneca and HBOS.
