Hibs overcome Raith to book Falkirk tie

HIbernian 2Hibernian edged closer to the Scottish Premier League after overcoming a determined Raith Rovers to book a semi-final play off tie with Falkirk.

The 2-0 victory for the Easter Road club may also prove to be Raith manager Ray Mckinnon’s last game in charge of the Kirkcaldy outfit. He has been linked to the vacancy at Dundee United and failure to progress with Raith may swing the decision.

Goals from John McGinn (8 min) and Darren McGregor (12 min) were enough to overcome the 1-0 first leg victory secured by Raith in midweek.

The Edinburgh club will play Falkirk on Tuesday night. The winner of that match will face Kilmarnock who lost 2-0 to Partick today.

Ayr went through to the Championship play-off final after a 6-2 aggregate victory over Peterhead and will play Stranraer who consigned Livingston to relegation by scoring twice in extra time to win 8-6 on aggregate.

Queens Park lost to Cowdenbeath 1-0 but won the League One play-off semi-final 2-1 on aggregate, and will play Clyde who beat Elgin 2-0 for a 5-1 aggregate win.

East Stirlingshire were looking to cling on to their 61-year stay in the senior leagues after a 1-1 draw with Edinburgh City in the first leg of the League Two play-off final.
