Buchanan St unit shuts
Jobs go as US store to close in central Glasgow
The store formed a centrepiece of the new development at the top of Buchanan Street which replaced a row of historic buildings housing restaurants a hotel and shops.
H&M is taking over the unit and will absorb some of Forever 21’s brands in its store in the nearby Buchanan Galleries.
Retailing sources say Forever 21’s closure is an internal matter and did not point to any particular difficulties with trading in the city.
Forever 21 bills itself as “the fifth largest speciality retailer in the United States” with 10% of the clothes market.
However, it has closed or scaled back stores elsewhere, including Manchester, and is expected to withdraw from a number of other UK locations.
