Getting in swing for Ryder Cup
Golf captains open Nasdaq with Standard Life Investments
US and European 2016 Ryder Cup captains, Darren Clarke and Davis Love III, rang the Opening Bell at the Nasdaq MarketSite, New York, yesterday on behalf of Standard Life Investments, worldwide partner of the tournament.
The Captains were accompanied at the opening of the markets by Nuala Walsh, global head of marketing & client relations at SLI, and Pete Bevacqua, chief executive of the PGA of America.
To mark the countdown to event at Hazeltine in September, the Standard Life Investments campaign, ‘World Class as Standard’, will take a detailed look at what it takes to deliver world-class performance.
This will be told through an online video series which will include insight from both Ryder Cup Captains. In the period leading up to the US tournament, using three independent experts, the series will explore both the importance and the impact of analysis, performance and potential on ultimate sporting success.
The series, set to go live on 3 May, will see Matthew Syed, British Sports columnist of the year, 2016, offering his perspective on the correlation of high performance and sporting success; Bob Rotella will underscore the importance of psychology and Mark Broadie (author of Every Shot Counts) will decode the analytics of golf.
Ms Walsh, said: “We understand just how fundamental the sustained delivery of world-class performance is to winning The Ryder Cup, and just how much research and preparation contributes.
“The heritage of The Ryder Cup, its commitment to excellence and the ability for teams to deliver their potential through the intelligent analysis and understanding of the game are all very much aligned to the values at Standard Life Investments. It is great to have both Captains in New York, ahead of what is sure to be an intense period of preparation for the main event in Hazeltine.”
