Manufacturing takes hit

Economy growing more slowly, says ONS

Wireline industrySlower manufacturing and construction output saw the UK economy grow by just 0.4% in the first quarter of the year.

The figure from the Office for National Statistis, reveals the 13th consecutive of growth, but it compares to 0.6% in the fourth quarter and meant the UK grew on an annual basis by 2.1%.

Construction output dropped 0.9%, while industry declined by 0.4%. The service sector grew by 0.6%.

The European referendum and a slowdown in the oil industry were among the contributory factors to the slowdown.
