Energy firm slumps

Npower confirms 2,400 job losses across UK

NpowerNpower is to axe 2,400 of its 11,500 UK staff as it fell to an operating loss last year. Most of the job losses are likely to be in the Midlands and Yorkshire.

The company was the most complained about among the big six energy companies. It was fined £26million for poor complaints handling and lost 351,000 customers.

It slumped to a €137m (£106m) loss last year, against a €227m profit in 2014.

German parent company RWE blamed government energy efficiency schemes for the “weakening our market share”.

Npower said the job losses would be among directly employed staff and contractors.
