Murray steps down from Fed Cup role

Judy MurrayJudy Murray is stepping down as captain to Great Britain’s Fed Cup team in order to spend more time with her grand daughter.

The promotion play-off defeat by Belgium in Israel in February was her last match in charge and she is tipped to be replaced by former British number one Anne Keothavong, who played 39 Fed Cup ties,

Murray, 56, led Britain into World Group play-off ties in Sweden and Argentina.

The birth on 7 February of Sophia Olivia to her son Andy and his wife Kim has given her new focus.

Murray took over the Fed Cup captaincy in December 2011 from Kim’s father Nigel Sears, who also did the job for five years.

Keothavong’s daughter will be more than a year old the next time the Fed Cup team play,
