Optical Express hires Meade from rival

Geraldine MeadeOptical Express has hired Geraldine Meade from Black & Lizars as professional development director.

Ms Meade, who was managing director at Black & Lizars, will deliver continuing professional development to Optical Express’s clinical and retail staff.

With 25 years of experience in the optical industry, she has held a number of positions at Black & Lizars, including chief operating officer, including overseeing the running of the firm’s 25 practices, before her most recent post.

At Optical Express she will be responsible for the professional development of staff across the company’s network of clinics in the UK and Ireland.

Optical Express is the largest provider of laser eye surgery in the UK and worldwide its surgeons have performed more than 2 million refractive surgery procedures.

She said: “I’m relishing the opportunity to grow and develop my career within such a large company.

“As well as having responsibility for a wider geographical reach, I now have the opportunity to work with optical professionals across all services, from dispensing glasses to complex surgeries such as lens replacement, laser eye surgery and cataract procedures.

“I’m also looking forward to working closely with David Moulsdale and the other members of the Optical Express Executive Leadership Team. Their dedication to improving access to life-changing treatment and raising standards in the ophthalmic industry is exactly the kind of environment I want to work in.”

Ms Meade’s new role will see her deliver the company’s continuous education and training (CET) project which launches in March.
