Royal Yacht proving big draw
Britannia hits new milestone for visitor numbers
The Royal Yacht Britannia is celebrating its highest visitor numbers since it was berthed in Leith in 1998.
The vessel ended 2015 with a record 308,906 visitors, an increase of 13,577 (4.6%) on 2014.
Formerly the Queen’s floating palace, it clocked up one million miles carrying royal parties around the world. It was decommissioned in 1997, much to the Queen’s disappointment. Celebrations are being planned by the staff to mark her 90th birthday.
Since its relocation to Leith nearly 5 million people have visited Britannia. Apart from the regular tourists, it is also used as a corporate venue.
