Baking company one of three new tenants

Cupcake firm steeled for growth at Grovewood

My Cupcake Toppers

A business born on a kitchen table is one of three new tenants to take space at Strathclyde Business Park.

My Cupcake Toppers is renting its first commercial property five years after Anna Kennedy launched My Cupcake Heaven in 2010, initially intended as a bespoke bakery, supplying local events and parties with baked goods.

After two years running My Cupcake Heaven, Ms Kennedy spotted a gap in the industry for decorative cake toppers for companies, charities and schools to promote their logo on the sweet treats.

She decided to buy an edible image printer and founded My Cupcake Toppers which now has sales overseas.

Due to increased demand which saw the business out-grow the home, My Cupcake Toppers has moved into a 492 sq. ft. industrial unit at UK Steel Enterprise’s Grovewood Business Centre in Bellshill.

She said: “With the business going from strength to strength, I needed to move the operation from my home to a suitable office and work station that was fit-for-purpose. UKSE offered a space with enough room to grow into, plus the wide doors on the industrial unit meant I could move all the machinery in without a hitch.

“The office is ideal in every way, from location to the support system provided by UKSE. I can now focus on continuing to grow the business, develop my products, and look forward to hiring more members of staff.”

Another new tenant, Smart Solutions Recruitment, has also moved to the centre. A provider of outsourced labour solutions, originally in the waste and recycling sector across England and Wales, Smart Solutions has taken a 687 sq. ft. office.

SSC Laser Cutting has taken a 490 sq. ft. office in the same location. The company specialises in laser profiling, scanning and CAD (computer-aided design) services.

Since UKSE started in 1975, 685 companies have shared the space and built up businesses, creating employment opportunities and economic growth in Lanarkshire.

Jackie Taylor at UK Steel Enterprise, said: “At UKSE, we support businesses realise their full potential and help encourage their growth, create jobs and boost the local economy.”

This year, UKSE is celebrating 40 years of supporting economic regeneration and the development of areas in the UK which have been affected by changes in the steel industry.
