Clydesdale Bank adds two to senior team

Kate GuthrieGavin OppermanClydesdale Bank has made two key appointments to its senior team.  Kate Guthrie moves in to the newly created position of human resources director while Gavin Opperman takes up the role of director of customer banking.

Both will report to chief executive David Duffy and the appointments come ahead of the bank’s flotation due in February.

With more than 30 years HR experience gained with large organisations across a variety of fast-paced consumer brands, from retail and pharmaceuticals to banking, Ms Guthrie will be based in Glasgow.

She joins after more than a decade with Lloyds Banking Group where she was latterly the HR Director responsible for leading the group’s culture, capability and engagement.

Prior to joining Lloyds as an HR Director in 2004, she held senior HR director positions with Novartis Pharmaceuticals UK, Scottish and Newcastle and United Distillers, part of Diageo.

Mr Opperman has spent 30 years working across digital, retail, commercial, corporate and investment banking. He is also based in Glasgow and will be responsible for driving growth and further improving the bank’s support for retail and business & private banking customers.

He joins from Standard Chartered Bank where he was regional head of consumer banking, Greater China, including China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Based in Shanghai, he successfully navigated challenging market conditions to positively transform banking for customers in the region while delivering sustained growth and profitability.

He also held a number of senior positions across Asia and Africa in a career with Barclays Group spanning some 20 years.
