Slater to head team at Baillie Gifford

Tom SlaterBaillie Gifford, the Edinburgh based investment management partnership, has appointed Tom Slater (pictured) as head of the North American team.

He takes over from interim head of the North American team, Gary Robinson, who will retain a leading role within the team. At the same time John MacDougall moves from the global discovery team to the long term global growth team.

Mr Slater will continue in his role of joint manager of the £3.6 billion Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust which he has successfully managed alongside James Anderson since 2009.

Charles Plowden, joint senior partner, Baillie Gifford, said: “Tom Slater’s appointment underlines our commitment to building a world class North American Equities team, and will also ensure that this group maintains close ties with our global strategies.”

Mr Slater graduate in computer science with mathematics from the University of Edinburgh in 2000. He joined Baillie Gifford the same year and worked in the developed Asian and UK equity teams before joining Scottish Mortgage as deputy manager in 2009. He became a partner in the firm in 2012.
