Entrepreneur opens five shops
Dog lover plans to Ruff It with new canine stores
Edinburgh entrepreneur and dog owner Chris Wood has turned his love and passion for dogs into a business opportunity and will open five stores selling products for dogs across Scotland over the next five years.
The first Ruff It will open in Morningside in Edinburgh next month.
Mr Wood’s new venture has been self-funded, with initial start-up capital of £20,000 sourced from the sale of his previous business Woodstar Properties, a letting company based in the capital which he also started from scratch.
He is aiming for his inaugural shop to turn over £90,000 in its first year with sales from the five stores hitting £1 million by 2021.
He launched an online dog accessory store two years ago but decided on retail shops as the way to build the business.
“We want to create a real community for dog owners across our shops and online; providing a comfortable space to shop, learn and discuss all things dog related with our very friendly and knowledgeable staff,” he said.
