Fountainbridge development
Former bingo hall becomes student flats
A former bingo hall in Edinburgh will be converted into the latest student accommodation block.
Global developer Select Property Group has secured planning permission for a £41 million development at Fountainbridge.
Operating under Select’s Vita Student brand, it will have 261 self-contained studios, a 5,000 square foot social hub area including private study rooms, a movie room and gym. It will take its first students in September 2017.
The development will also feature three retail and leisure units and marks the final phase of the city’s Fountainbridge Regeneration Scheme which includes retail, office and residential accommodation.
Speaking about the decision, Ken Knott, chief development officer at Select Property Group, said approval had come after 18 months of working with the city’s planners.
The company has eight residences in operation and four more sites in development in Glasgow, Newcastle and York.
