Dove takes engineering role as Skyscanner grows

Bryan DoveEdinburgh headquartered flight comparison search site Skyscanner has hired Bryan Dove to lead Skyscanner’s global engineering teams.

Dove, formerly Director of Engineering at Amazon’s S3, becomes senior vice president of engineering and will also head up the new London hub, one of two engineering offices the company has opened. The other is in Sofia, while a larger, mobile-focused office in Budapest has also opened, bringing Skyscanner’s network of offices to 10.

The move is part of an expansion of engineering resources worldwide for Skyscanner, which saw a 77% increase in mobile visitors and a 42% increase in revenue to £93m in 2014.

Skyscanner, which employs over 450 in Edinburgh and Glasgow and more than 700 worldwide, has created more than 160 new roles across the business in 2015 alone. The existing engineering team makes up almost half of Skyscanner’s total staff.

The engineering team is set to grow further as part of a large-scale recruitment campaign: there are currently 115 engineering roles open in Skyscanner’s European offices alone, including Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Mr Dove said: “As a rapidly growing tech company and a leader in online travel, strength in engineering is at the core of our strategy. Delivering a world-class product to 50m monthly visitors across the globe is not easy, and we require the best talent out there to help us do this and continue our growth at scale.”

Skyscanner now has offices in Barcelona, Beijing, Budapest, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Miami, Shenzhen, Singapore and Sofia.
