Scotland on verge of elimination after Georgia defeat
Gordon Strachan, the team manage, will need to lift his players for the Hampden clash after an unexpected 1-0 defeat to Georgia in Tbilisi. Valeri Kazaishvili scored seven minutes before half-time in a game dominated by the hosts.
Scotland will finish their Group D campaign with games against Poland and Gibraltar in October, but these could be rendered meaningless if the Germans fulfil expectations of a comfortable win against the Scots. The Germans despatched their nearest rivals Poland 3-1 last night.
Strachan, who went into the Georgia match believing Scotland were on the verge of clinching a place at a major tournament for the first time since 1998, tried to be positive.
“I’ve just got to think we have three games left and want to get as many points as possible. I’ve not changed my thought process since the start of the campaign,” he said after last night’s setback.
“Sometimes it is a bumpy ride trying to get where you want to go. We’ve had a bump just now and we have to deal with that.
“I’ve got every confidence in the players as a group to get themselves organised, refreshed and looking forward to the challenge.”
