US Open Men's Doubles Final

Murray misses out after losing second Slam final

Screenshot 2015-09-11 13.12.19Jamie Murray and his Australian teammate John Peers suffered a second successive Grand Slam men’s doubles final defeat after losing at Flushing Meadows.

The eighth seeds were beaten 6-4, 6-4 in the US Open Final by the French 12th seeds Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut.

Murray and Peers had also lost at Wimbledon and the Scot will now join his brother Andy in Glasgow for next week’s Davis Cup semi-final against Australia.

“I’m starting to know what Andy felt like for a long time,” Murray said of his younger brother, who lost his first four major singles finals.

The Davis Cup tie will be Britain’s biggest tie in 34 years, although Peers will not be in the opposing team as he did not make Wally Masur’s squad.

Murray and Peers will move fourth in the ATP doubles race, with the top eight qualifying for November’s season-ending finals in London.
